Plan Your Program

Pick your films and events, making sure not to choose conflicting events. Regal Downtown, Vinegar Hill, and The Paramount are located on the Downtown Mall; Newcomb Hall and Culbreth Theatre are at opposite ends of U.Va. Grounds. If you choose consecutive screenings across town from each other, you may have to leave one early, so plan accordingly.

USING U.Va. STUDENT FILM$ DOLLARS: All full-time U.Va. students receive $15 worth of FILM$ Dollars (part of the Arts$ program) which may be used to purchase Virginia Film Festival tickets. Students may use FILM$ Dollars to obtain tickets online or by phone only (service charge does not apply). SUPPORT THE FESTIVAL: Now in its 21st year, the Virginia Film Festival offers a year-round program including the Virginia Film Society, the annual Festival weekend and occasional special screenings. We invite you to provide important support for the Festival’s activities by becoming a Friend of the Festival. Friends’ benefits at various levels may include all-access passes and invitations to events and screenings. For more information about how you can make a gift or pledge, contact Adrienne Wager, Arts Development Manager, at (434) 924-0743 or e-mail awager@virginia.edu.

When purchasing tickets during the Film Festival, please keep in mind the following:

  1. All pre-purchased tickets will be held at the Main Box Office at Regal on the Downtown Mall.
  2. Tickets for all screenings will be at the Festival’s Main Box Office at Regal on the Downtown Mall until the day of the screening.
  3. One hour before each screening, any tickets still available for purchase and any uncollected Will Call tickets will be brought to the Box Office of the theatre holding the screening. For example, on Friday, October 31 at 6pm, tickets for Friday Newcomb screenings will only be available at the Newcomb Box Office, while tickets for the upcoming Saturday Newcomb screenings will only be available at the Main Box Office at Regal Cinemas on the Downtown Mall.

Theatre Guidelines

  1. Seating for each screening will begin approximately 30 minutes before the screening time. Seating is general admission, so come early for the best selection. Note that some seats may be reserved for special guests of the Festival. Please respect these areas.
  2. Festival Pass holders must collect their tickets at least 20 minutes before the screening.
  3. All unclaimed tickets (if any) set aside for Festival pass holders will be offered for sale to the general public 15 minutes before each screening. If a screening is sold out, come wait in the standby line and take your chances. There will not be a standby line for McCormick Observatory events.
  4. Admission to theatres may be restricted after the film has begun. Please arrive on time.
  5. Each theatre must be completely cleared of patrons between screenings.
